Hi, I'm Patti, Founder of Timber & Bay Design.
I Believe the Planning Phase of the Remodeling Process Doesn’t have to be so Messy!
I've been through my share of remodels, and I know firsthand how quickly an exciting project can become overwhelming.
Finding contractors. Debating layouts with your spouse (and discovering you have very different ideas!). Making endless decisions. Trying to compare contractor bids when everyone is working from different assumptions.
And then there's the biggest frustration: You can't get an accurate estimate without a plan, but how do you know what to plan before you know what it might cost?
Welcome to what I call the messy middle.
It's that frustrating space between having ideas and having a clear direction. And it's exactly where Timber & Bay Design comes in.
From Process Improvement to Space Planning
Before starting Timber & Bay Design, I spent 26 years working in process improvement, project management, workflow evaluation, and problem-solving.
As a certified Six Sigma Green Belt, I learned to look at complicated processes, identify what's not working, and find smarter, more efficient solutions.
When I retired from my corporate career, I realized those same skills were a natural fit for something I've always loved: homes.
After all, good space planning is really about problem-solving.
Why doesn't this kitchen function better? Could we improve the traffic flow? Is there a smarter way to use that awkward corner? Could we create more storage without adding square footage?
I love finding those solutions.
Here's Where I Get on My Space Planning Soapbox!
I believe homeowners sometimes get so excited about the beautiful finishes that they overlook the most important part of a remodel: how the space actually works.
A gorgeous kitchen won't make up for a frustrating layout. Expensive cabinetry won't solve poor storage planning. And adding square footage isn't always the answer.
Sometimes the smartest remodel isn't about adding more. It's about making better use of what you already have.
That's what I love about space planning. It's about looking beyond what's there today, questioning what could work better, and finding solutions that make everyday living easier.
Because I believe a home should be more than beautiful. It should work beautifully, too.
Let's Get Out of the Messy Middle
One thing I've learned through my own remodeling experiences is that contractors generally want to build. Many would rather work from a well-developed plan than spend hours helping homeowners figure out exactly what they want.
That's where Timber & Bay Design can help.
I focus on the planning stage—helping you explore possibilities, improve layouts, consider cabinetry and storage, and make important design decisions before construction begins.
Whether you're working with your own contractor, a design-build firm, or still figuring out where to start, I can help bring clarity to your ideas.
And if you already have a contractor, I'm happy to collaborate with them to develop layout drawings that support estimating, material planning, and construction preparation.
The goal? Fewer surprises, clearer decisions, and a more streamlined path from your ideas to your finished space.
Because remodeling is a significant investment of your money, time, and energy. You deserve a thoughtful plan before committing to construction.
Why Timber & Bay?
The name comes from one of my favorite places: our small but mighty cottage in Wisconsin's Northwoods.
It's a place where space is limited, every square foot matters, and I've learned to appreciate the challenge of fitting everything we need into a smaller footprint without sacrificing comfort.
But it's also about the feeling of being up north.
The water. The trees. The breeze. The slower pace. That wonderful sense of calm when everything just feels right.
That's the feeling behind Timber & Bay Design.
I believe your home should feel that way, too. And the process of creating it shouldn't leave you exhausted.
