Hi, I’m Patti, founder of Timber & Bay Design.

I’ve decided remodels don’t have to be a messy process!

During my own remodels, I’ve felt the frustration of finding contractors, wrestling with my spouse over which layout is best (depends on who you talk to!) and just all the messy exhausting back and forth between us and contractors, decision fatigue, comparing bids based on different assumptions, etc. You can’t even get a bid or ballpark number until you have a plan - thus the messy middle!

So, I’ve taken my process improvement background (Six Sigma Green Belt certified, Continuous Improvement training from United Technologies Corporation (Achieving Competitive Excellence), 5S training, Ergonomics training, and 26 years of evaluating processes, procedures, workflows, project management, people management, problem solving, and technical abilities and thrown it all into my love of anything to do with HOMES!

When I retired, I realized everything I’d spent my career doing - problem solving, process improvement, project planning and helping people - was the perfect foundation for remodel planning. It allows me to combine analytical thinking with my passion for creating new spaces that people love all while smoothing out the often scary stressful messy middle part of renovating. Let’s make this process better, shall we?

Why they name Timber & Bay Design? We have a small but mighty cottage in the Wisconsin Northwoods which I love organizing and rising to the challenge of having everything we need but not much more; fitting it all into a tiny space but keeping it neat and tidy. I’ve always been drawn to the feeling of being up north — near the water, surrounded by nature, where everything slows down and feels right. That’s how your remodel process SHOULD feel and that’s how your home should feel after. I mean you are spending a lot of money on this remodel - and time, effort, and your energy. That calm feeling from our cottage, the setting, the water, wind and trees -that feeling is my inspiration for Timber & Bay - and your home…and why not the process of getting there too?

Get yourself and your remodel out of the messy middle; when you have too many ideas and no clear direction, no clear layout, flow and function and nothing concrete for contractors to bid from. I’ve learned that contractors mostly want to build - not design. They would prefer to bid and build from a clear plan rather than develop the layout from scratch. Timber & Bay focuses on the planning stage - helping homeowners make confident layout decisions before construction begins and letting you work through those design decisions early in the process. Whether you continue with your own contractor, a design-build firm, or another professional, you’ll move forward with a clearer plan and greater confidence. If you already have a trusted contractor but still need help refining layout and developing construction drawings, Timber & Bay can collaborate with both you and your contractor to create plans they can confidently price, order materials and use as framework for construction.

“Thoughtful planning. Better flow. More confident remodels“

Great remodels aren’t defined by the beautiful finishes alone -they’re defined by how well the space works every single day.

What Timber & Bay Design Provides: Designing Homes that Work Better

Based in Wisconsin and working with homeowners and contractors both locally and virtually, Timber & Bay helps clarify layout decisions before construction begins — whether working directly with homeowners or alongside their contractor.

During transitional times — expanding families, remote work, empty nests, or aging in place — homeowners don’t necessarily want to move. They simply want their current home to work better for the way they live today.

That’s where I focus my work: reimagining how spaces flow so they support real life.

Effective space planning creates natural circulation, improves storage, reduces wasted space, and helps every room better support the way you and your family actually live. Whether you are opening up a kitchen, creating a home office, adding a mudroom, or planning an addition, the layout decisions made before construction have the greatest impact on how your home feels for years to come.

A home can be filled with beautiful finishes and still not function well. Often it isn’t the finishes — it’s the layout.

When spaces flow naturally and support the way people actually live, the entire home feels calmer and more aligned.

That’s why Timber & Bay focuses on the planning stage - where layout, flow, and function come together before the first wall comes down so you will be left with flow and calm after the dust settles.
